Digital substitute: The case for intentional technology in education
There is a pattern I keep seeing in schools, and it concerns me. A teacher will open a lesson on their device, allow students access to the lesson on their...

Learning is the most profound human experience. It is the process of unfolding one’s hidden potential. Yet, the transformative power of a great program is often lost in translation between cultures. It becomes a shadow of itself, stripped of its original heartbeat. At ULD, we ensure that the brilliance of your educational vision reaches the classroom not just intact, but invigorated.
Innovation demands more than adaptation; it requires resonance. When global programs enter new landscapes, a silent chasm opens between intent and implementation. We bridge this divide. We don't just localize content; we breathe life into it, ensuring it speaks the language of the local classroom while preserving the integrity of its soul.
We specialize in Pedagogical Localization & Integration. By partnering with EdTech companies, publishers, program developers and schools, we cultivate environments where educational programs can truly take root and flourish. Because every learner deserves an education that recognizes their context and honors their future.
We find our truth on the classroom floor. Rather than imposing rigid, ready-made answers, we immerse ourselves in the lived reality of each organization and learner. We offer a deep, inquiry-based partnership — a collaborative journey to craft solutions that resonate. People remain our north star: not abstract systems or frameworks, but the teachers and students who breathe life into learning every single day.
Our commitment is to build what endures in the hands of real people. Learning is never just about capturing the right answer. It is the electric spark when a student strikes a question that did not exist before. It is the quiet shift when a conversation unveils a perspective once unimagined. These profound moments, layered over time, forge a resilient and lifelong hunger for discovery.

My fascination with education began early — not merely as a student, but as an observer of how learning defines who we become. This curiosity led me from Japan to Canada, where I spent over 15 years teaching in K-12 settings. During that time, I immersed myself in multicultural education, developing a lifelong commitment to inclusive, learner-centered design.
The classroom offered a depth of insight no textbook could replicate: a visceral understanding of how learning actually happens. I discovered that exceptional programs flourish not just because of their content, but because of how they resonate with the people they serve. This hands-on experience is the cornerstone of my professional philosophy.
My perspective expanded further during my four years at Apple’s Worldwide Education team, where I led the nationwide rollout of professional learning programs across Japan. Overseeing strategy and partnerships gave me a unique vantage point to witness how global innovation meets — and sometimes struggles with — Japanese classroom reality.
I founded ULD to bridge the gap between visionary programs and the students they are meant to reach. By uniting a bicultural background with authentic classroom experience, I am dedicated to ensuring that every educational innovation translates into meaningful success in the local context.
